Default Mpeg to Gif

Forgive me if this seems a tad out of place, but I want to put an animated
gif on my FrontPage site. I converted the video from vhs to mpeg, but would
like to convert it again to gif. Any ideas of freeware out there for this
purpose?

Thanks

Google for: convert mpeg to gif
and you'll come up with many hits for the software required to do this.

Tom,

I went through the top 40 of those hits, and they all are fee based. Some
actually only convert avi to gif even though they came up under that search.

What about Xnview? I've used that for years, and it was free when I
downloaded and installed. Looking at the web site makes me think it still
is. Check out

On of the best free programs around
www.irfranview.com

It does a lot more than save in various formats, but it certainly does this
well - I just tried it (.jpg to .gif).

If you can't find it for free, do it manualy for free
#1 Open video with Windows Movie Maker
#2 Take snapshots of the frames you want
#3 Use Paint to save as static gif images
#4 Animate the gif with a free gif animator, such as
Unfreeze
