reinstall

my system has gone haywire i wish to wipe my HDD and the
start fresh... theres a problem i have already activated
my XP version and now i'm scared if i wipe and then
reinstall when i go to activate again i won't be able
to... can anyone tell me if my worries are correct or if
the IP address is what is important when activating...
