Default RIS + PXE Chronically Slow

Hi,

I've started playing with RIS - built an install point etc. ok, got a bunch
of machines with PXE boot roms. They connect fine, start installing windows
(XP) ... but chronically slowly. Even the "Please wait while setup inspects
your hardware configuration" is slow. Network activity is pretty much zero
between the RIS server (win2k3 SP1). We've a CAT6 gigabit network -
everything should be fine.

I've read KB906425 - could this be the issue? I'm not very interested on
paying £80 for something that 'may' fix the problem...

Thanks in advance,

Dave

I had an issue with Altiris PXE server (which uses the same
startrom.com as RIS, though named differently) when deploying WinPE to
IBM Bladeservers (gigabit backbone). It sometimes took 17 minutes just
to download WinPE, after applying the RIS hotfix (to Altiris), it only
took 1 minute

The hofix doesnt cost anything to obtain (at least in sweden).

Thanks for this. Found the problem - multihomed servers are a no-no.
Installed 2003 Server on a virtual PC on my desktop, works like a dream.

Thanks!

Great!

Remember the RIS commandment:
"Thou shall not multihome without consequences"
