Hi all, Thanks to your previous help!
Now I can boot into the my old system. But I still worry about those malicious softwares. I removed some manually, The stupid Windows Defender did not find any. I still believe there are more residing in my system. What is the best malicious/ad-ware remover? I have seen a long list, but I cannot try all of these, because installing all these ad/mal-ware remover may introduce more problem, etc. I need to know the best available ad/mal-ware remover... Thanks again |

I meant spy-ware, ad-ware, mal-ware, hijacker, etc. all kinds of things
that made my system unrebootable previously... Unfornately neither Windows Defender nor Symentic Antivirus detected them or killed them... Stupid software!!! I can only give you a list of what I use, but I do not want to say which is best, as everyone has his/her own opinions... For Anti Spyware/Adwares... 1) Ad-aware 2) Spybot Search & Destroy 3) Spyware Terminator 4) Arovax AntiSpyware For Anti Virus... 1) NOD32 2) Kaspersky 3) AntiVir 4) Avast! 5) McAfee No specific order or preferences here... |

For software solutions, malware writers generally figure out how to cirumvent them. Consequently "best" is a moving target. I find that a variety of tools are necessary, starting with keeping the temporary files and temporary internet files folders clean. HTH -pk |

Different people will tell you different things and there is no one right
answer. We all have our preferences. For my customers I put Avast Antivirus on. For my own AV I use Symantec not Norton. Symantec AV is meant for businesses and is less obtrusive. Spyware is a bit trickier. If you understand what you are doing a combination of three or four programs is needed. Adaware Freeware Spybot S&D Freeware Windows Defender Freeware has real time protection (memory resident) Ewido is a retail program with a 30 day trial so is good when cleaning an infection. Adaware and Spybot need to be run as they have no resident protection and a lot of people simply don't understand this. Also many dont even update the definitions. For some of my customers if they want a simple approach where they dont have to do anything I recommend Webroot's Spysweeper. I use it myself A router is the best firewall defence. If you understand out going protection then ZoneAlarm or one of the other free firewalls is great. If you dont understand firewalls then Windows built in is fine. Others will no doubt disagree with some of what I've written but I write it after seeing how lots of people use their computers. Choose a regimen that you can work with and understand. -- Please repost if you find the fault Glen P ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Lucy" <comtech.usa@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1152690112.463966.96910@m73g2000cwd.googlegroups.com... >I meant spy-ware, ad-ware, mal-ware, hijacker, etc. all kinds of things > that made my system unrebootable previously... > > Unfornately neither Windows Defender nor Symentic Antivirus detected > them or killed them... Great advice, may I offer a couple addendum? Ewido has a freeware version available. You don't get realtime monitoring or automatic online updates and is not for commercial use. Otherwise same as the paid product. The free version of Spybot S&D does indeed offer realtime monitoring. You have to select advanced mode to configure it. -- Zop ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on, or by imbeciles who really mean it. ---Mark Twain -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

It is no more stupid than any other such program. None of these is perfect. > I still believe there are more residing in my system. > > What is the best malicious/ad-ware remover? > > I have seen a long list, but I cannot try all of these, because > installing all these ad/mal-ware remover may introduce more problem, > etc. That's not normally an issue. You can't run them all, but you can, and should, run several. > I need to know the best available ad/mal-ware remover... There is no "best." As I said above, none is perfect, and you need multiple products for adequate protection. Read http://spywarewarrior.com/asw-features.htm It states "as testing with these anti-spyware applications has demonstrated, no single anti-spyware application will remove everything. Therefore, users are advised to install and use at least two anti-spyware applications." I personally run Windows Defender Spyware Blaster Spyware Guard Spybot Search and Destroy Adaware -- Ken Blake - Microsoft MVP Windows: Shell/User Please reply to the newsgroup |
