Hello,
I have a customer who's eMachine MLB crapped out on her. I have a Dell 4600c that I can put the HD into, but it won't go past the progress bar. I've double/triple checked the BIOS settings and still the OS would not come up. Since this machine has no floppy, I attempted a 'fixboot' from the Recovery Console of an xp pro disk, but this did not solve the issue. I've been wrestling with this for days and can't seem to find a solution. Did I miss something some where? thanks in advance, Wanz |

Because the hardware is different, you cannot install a hard drive
taken from a eMachine computer and install it in a Dell computer and expect it to boot-up. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Enjoy all the benefits of genuine Microsoft software: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/default.mspx ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "thewanz" wrote: | Hello, | I have a customer who's eMachine MLB crapped out on her. Then is it possible to copy the content of the 6 boot disks for XP home onto
a CD-R in order to facilitate a xpHome installation? If that's not possible, then what about using the file transfer wizard to move her files from her xpHome drive to a newly installed xpPro HD? Is there any viable solution you can think of that doesn't involve killing the data from the original HD? A repair installation on the new computer could solve this problem, but you need a full retail version of Windows to do that, not an OEM version that may be bound to a particular computer. Check the chapter Repair installation of http://winhlp.com/WxMove.htm for details. Hans-Georg -- No mail, please. |
