I bought a used computer with a licensed version (OEM I think) of XP Home.
Can I buy the upgrade version of XP Professional to upgrade or do I need the full version? Is there any way to tell if my version of Home is upgradeable? Thanks. |

The Retail Upgrade version of XP Pro will upgrade an OEM version of XP Home with no problems other than the normal precautions you need to take when upgrading an operating system. Only if you buy a brand new version of XP Pro. If you already own a version
of XP Pro and need to connect to a domain (as I do) you won't be able to because the XP home is sp2 and the older XP Pro (which you already purchased) is sp1. Therefore, it won't happen and you cannot remove SP2 since it is OEM preinstalled new version. There's no way to remove it that I have found.
