I am using XP/Pro in a work networked environment and cannot get Activesync
4.1 to work. It keeps spinning the green circle until it dies. It 'appears' there is a problem with firewall and not being able to allow 'exceptions' as the Activesync entries are 'greyed out' on the firewall exceptions tab. I'm unable to check the boxes due to being greyed out thereby allowing exception to firewall protection. I am a local machine administrator. At first I was not but allowed to be so to get the software installed on my laptop. I get no error messages but it simply will not establish a relationship between my PDA and my laptop. Outlook 2003 is installed on my laptop. Infarred port DOES work allowing me to transfer 'files'. Any suggestions on how to do a sync with Outllook for calendar, email, contacts, etc? -- Frank M |

Apparently, there is a group policy controlling this which is not allowing me
to change anything on the machine firewall. Is there anything I can do? Can I synch via infared (which does appear to work -- at least for transfering files between the computer and my mobile device)? Thanks! -- Frank M "Vincent Xu [MSFT]" wrote: > Hi, > > I'd like to suggest you check following article first:\ > > http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;911423 > > Make sure you didn't mark the option "Don't Allow Exceptions" > > > Best regards, > > Vincent Xu > Microsoft Online Partner Support > > ====================================================== > Get Secure! - www.microsoft.com/security > ====================================================== > When responding to posts, please "Reply to Group" via your newsreader so > that others > may learn and benefit from this issue. > ====================================================== > This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties,and confers no rights. > ====================================================== > > > > -------------------- > >>Thread-Topic: ActiveSync 4.1 will not work on IPAQ hx2795 via USB > >>thread-index: AcZ+EjDV+5gzevjkQtuK+UezSc0z3Q== > >>X-WBNR-Posting-Host: 216.64.56.84 > >>From: =?Utf-8?B?RnJhbmsgTQ==?= <fwmcdo@myalias.postalias> > >>Subject: ActiveSync 4.1 will not work on IPAQ hx2795 via USB > >>Date: Mon, 22 May 2006 19:40:02 -0700 > >>Lines: 14 > >>Message-ID: <4A898D82-9546-42CD-A133-69967D6CDC75@microsoft.com> > >>MIME-Version: 1.0 > >>Content-Type: text/plain; > >> charset="Utf-8" > >>Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > >>X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000 > >>Content-Class: urn:content-classes:message > >>Importance: normal > >>Priority: normal > >>X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.3790.1830 > >>Newsgroups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin > >>Path: TK2MSFTNGXA01.phx.gbl > >>Xref: TK2MSFTNGXA01.phx.gbl > microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin:184803 > >>NNTP-Posting-Host: TK2MSFTNGXA01.phx.gbl 10.40.2.250 > >>X-Tomcat-NG: microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin > >> > >>I am using XP/Pro in a work networked environment and cannot get > Activesync > >>4.1 to work. Hi Frank ,
Regarding the firewall issue, would you please send me a screen shot? To take a screen shot: --------------------- 1) Press the Pr Scrn key once on the keyboard when the error message appears. 2) Click Start, go to Run, enter MSPAINT in the open dialog box, and then Click OK. 3) Use Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot to the canvas. 4) From the File menu, go to Save and save it as a JPG file. 5) Send the JPG file to me as an attachment. My mailbox: v-xuwen@microsoft.com Regarding the infared thing. I'm not a specialist therefore, I think microsoft.public.mobileexplorer will be more approprate. Thanks.
