Default Problems with home networking...

Hello. Here is the setup:

Computer 1: 2 network cards, 1 connected to cable modem
Computer 2 (laptop): connected to computer 1 (twisted pair)
both running XPSP2

- computer 1 can access the internet and 'see' computer 2 in My Network Places
- computer 2 can 'see' computer 1 in My Network Places but cannot access
internet
- running Network Setup Wizard on both computer does not change anything
- computer 1 and 2 can both 'ping' each other
- computer 2 can not ping the cable modem

can someone help me with IP adresses, gateways and so on?

Thanks a lot
reply by e-mail (alain_duclos@videotron.ca) would be appreciated

To solve this problem quickly and cleanly, invest in a router for your
network setup. They're available for a minimal cost and are designed to
allow you to quickly and easily share a network connection and an Internet
connection.

You need to turn on Internet sharing. on the computer that is connected to
the modem.
1. Double click on your Network Connection in the System Tray
2. Click on Properties Button
3. Click on Advanced Tab
4. In the Internet Connection Sharing Box check the Box that says "Allow
other network users to connect through this computers Internet connection.
5. Click OK

Hope that helps........
