Is there a document that describes how to set a static IP address for use
with a router? Just assigning an IP address does not cut it. I have a DLink DI-524 and wish to set up control over a specific PC on the LAN to restrict internet access. |

As long as the static IP address is within the address range of the router's domain, and outside the DHCP range, assigning the address on the computer should work fine. > I have a DLink DI-524 and wish to set up control over a specific PC on the > LAN to restrict internet access. How does the IP address assignment affect Internet access? What you may have to do is NOT set up that computer with TCP/IP, but use a nonroutable protocol like NETBEUI instead... |

Don't know whether your Dlink router supports reservations such that the
same IP address can always be assigned to a specific computer. However, the router does support MAC address filtering, so you can configure the client to obtain an address from the router and then block/control Internet access based upon its MAC address. You could assign an IP outside the DHCP range---or at the high end. That's
what I did for my network, where the router does DHCP, but I wanted one or 2 computers to always be this or that so I could run a web server or ftp server HTH Ken "Doug Sherman [MVP]" <dsherman@nospam.tampabay.rr.com> wrote in message news:eZ94EZa$EHA.2076@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... > Don't know whether your Dlink router supports reservations such that the > same IP address can always be assigned to a specific computer.
