1) Place windowsdefender.msi on the desktop:
---- OK--here's another way: You have "windowsdefender.msi" sitting on the desktop, right? Do Start, Run, and cut and paste the line below into that box marked Open, and hit OK: msiexec /i "%userprofile%\desktop\windowsdefender.msi" Be sure to get both quote marks in there. What happens? ----------------------- 2) download this zip containing MSI.REG, and extract and double-click on that .reg file http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/msi_assoc.zip -- "Defender" <Defender@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:BF442576-2F04-48E8-8A29-F63C63E450AA@microsoft.com... > Defender does not install > WindowsDefender.msi > When I down load or try to install from the web I get this error: > This file does not have a program associated withit for performing this > action. I'm surprised how common this issue is--I suspect it is caused by previous
spyware or virus activity--glad its fixed! -- "Defender" <Defender@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:9977C1B7-ED9D-4E24-93EE-3486B73D34DF@microsoft.com... >I get a dialog box I did not get before. > Welcome to the Installation Wizard for Windows Defneder > Next> (a few time) > Install > The wizard has successfuly Installed Windows Defnder > > Thank, I can not tell you how greatful I am, I have tried installing > countless times over a couple of months.
