I have a computer that is infected with something pretty bad. It will allow
me to surf the net, but not to use Windows Update or WD update. I have tried several steps recommended by MS to no avail. There has to be a way to download the spyware signatures, burn them to CD and install them on the other PC, right? Please help! Windows Update is useless if you cannot get it to work on your machine!!!!! Need a back door! Thanks, Billy |

Hi
WD is not a good choice to clean up a PC.... Ewido is a smarter/better cleaner. http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ Also download signatures within same page. Then download Lavasoft Adaware and signatures. http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE...02.html?tag=pop Signatures: http://download.lavasoft.de.edgesui...public/defs.zip Smitfraud and Vundo removals (special tools) http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum55.html regards plun > I have a computer that is infected with something pretty bad. Hello Biago,
Try on-line scaners here: http://www.ewido.net/en http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm Just out of interest. What steps recommended by MS you try? I hope this post is helpful. Let us know how it works ºut. Еиçеl --- "Biagio" wrote: > I have a computer that is infected with something pretty bad. It will allow > me to surf the net, but not to use Windows Update or WD update. You can run safety.live.com in safe mode with networking, fwiw.
You can download and burn to CD with the URL found in the windowsupdate.log file on a machine which has updated. Some of those URL's have been posted in these groups, but they change with each update. Since there doesn't appear to be anything new today, as yet, http://www.download.windowsupdate.c...ec2d679925f.exe is the most current. -- "Engel" <Engel@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:62EED50B-73FD-4195-B603-800EC8D31BDA@microsoft.com... > Hello Biago, > > Try on-line scaners here: > http://www.ewido.net/en > > http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm > > Just out of interest. Ewido worked great and it was nice to be able to pre-download the signatures
and burn them to a CD. While it cleaned up over 6600 pieces of malware it did not fix the internet challenge I am having. I can stil not get Windows Update to work. I tried adding the site to the trusted sites list, stopping and starting the WU service, and a few other suggestions that MS gave, but nothing worked. I also cannot get into any banking sites or use any programs that need to update themselves through the web. Might be an HTTPS challenge, but I am not sure and have no idea where to go from here. Anyone have any thoughts? Hi
A common problem with heavily infested PCs are blocking hosts entrances or redirects to the bad guys sites. So check your hosts file with this program. http://www.funkytoad.com/ > Hoster 3.1, reset to MS original. Windowsupdate problems are a real mess and this tool solves many problems. http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix regards plun > Ewido worked great and it was nice to be able to pre-download the signatures > and burn them to a CD. if this is XP, please do start -> run then type in netsh winsock reset and
reboot. This another step to try along with the other good advise given by other posters. -- -steve Steve Dodson [MSFT] Windows Defender Beta Lead MCSE, CISSP http://blogs.technet.com/stevedod -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
