Try disabling real-time protection in your antivirus application for the
duration of the installation. -- "Shane" <Shane@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:2E428D0F-3CDD-4AAC-8DF5-EE46F0644774@microsoft.com... > when i install the windows defender it does nothing. I have been having this same issue - hangs on the installation.
The computer is running XP Home and I have recently formatted the hard drive, Antivirus software is NOT even installed as of yet, but all critical updates have been done from windows update. I don't have an answer--I'm tempted to recommend a malware scan at
safety.live.com, but perhaps that's overkill? -- "Aldur" <Aldur@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:8FC66302-B38F-4EC2-B6C0-B7DA02582458@microsoft.com... >I have been having this same issue - hangs on the installation. > The computer is running XP Home and I have recently formatted the hard > drive, Antivirus software is NOT even installed as of yet, but all > critical > updates have been done from windows update. > > "Bill Sanderson MVP" wrote: > >> Try disabling real-time protection in your antivirus application for the >> duration of the installation. >> >> -- >> >> "Shane" <Shane@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:2E428D0F-3CDD-4AAC-8DF5-EE46F0644774@microsoft.com... >> > when i install the windows defender it does nothing. I thought about that -- but after a fresh format / install I just don't see
that being the issue -- I am wonderign if it has more to do with one of the new updates as I also have an issue with validating now too -- it is a legal copy of windows home, but the validation on any of the downloads will hang (lock up) the computer as well... Not sure where to find support about that part either. That sounds more likely than malware being the issue, and there is some
support available for WGA-related issues: http://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...aspx?Gprid=9860 I've only referred two folks to this so far, the the first one reported that they wouldn't help him because he had an OEM version of Windows. No report back from the second, as I recall. -- "Aldur" <Aldur@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:A3C79163-53B4-40B7-9FD1-624A90E9D3AA@microsoft.com... >I thought about that -- but after a fresh format / install I just don't see > that being the issue -- I am wonderign if it has more to do with one of > the > new updates as I also have an issue with validating now too -- it is a > legal > copy of windows home, but the validation on any of the downloads will hang > (lock up) the computer as well... Well - that didn't take as long to find as what I thought!
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...24-662ee4816fd8 Seems there is an incompatiblity with the Nvidia IDE drivers that causes this exact issue - will try it out as soon as I get home!
