I don't suppose there's a filter around that only kills that part of a
thread after it's been Butt-headed? |

Thanks. What's the thread name? (To kill a branch of a thread after pcbutts has made his appearance.) |

A tip I picked up from the groups some time ago was to subscribe to the alt.usenet.kooks newsgroup, but then set up a news rule that says Apply this rule after the message arrives, Where the message is on alt.usenet.kooks newsgroup, Delete it. What happens then is that anyone who crossposts in kooks (which is mainly people whose posts have no interest for me - I think pcbutts must be one of them because I never see his/her posts) |

There were 2 or 3 other threads that led to it but I CRS, sorry. Prob is that good posts may come from the same server. If you don't mind plucking M-IDs from bozo's post, it's simple: some kill score: Message-ID: <blahblah@whatever\.com> OR (whatever T-bird uses to "OR") References: <blahblah@whatever\.com> J -- Replies to: Nherr1professor2doktor31109(at)Oyahoo(dot)Tcom |

I'd dislike killing threads because some of them have stuff I'd like to read. I don't need the branch of a thread that's been hijacked by Butthead. |

I doubted there would be a tool for branch killing as it would require recording a bunch of reference file numbers, and that would really slow things down. Butts is in the kill file, but most of the responses to him are from people I don't want to killfile. |

I don't need the branch of a thread that's been hijacked by Butthead. have you looked into nfilter? i think it's supposed to be able to kill on any header, so you should be able to kill based on reference rather than killing the whole thread... you mentioned you felt that would slow things down too much, but i'm not sure pcbutts actually appears in that many new threads so barring header mishaps a single reference should get the entire branch, and old references can be pruned from the list since threads eventually die (some faster than others)... not that i condone ignoring pcbutts... he's one of those rare trolls where ignoring him actually allows him to do greater harm... sugien, for all his {whatever it was he had}, was at least fairly benign... -- "it's not the right time to be sober now the idiots have taken over spreading like a social cancer, is there an answer?" |

I use NFilter and the T-Bird filter. I think NFilter would require manually entering the message reference, then manually removing it. Faster and easier to click on the Buttocks, down arrow, shift click, and hit "M". A one click solution would be nice. A blanket solution would be even better. > not that i condone ignoring pcbutts... he's one of those rare trolls > where ignoring him actually allows him to do greater harm... Yeah, people who know the subject should not ignore him. People like me, with minimal expertise, should ignore him. I don't think he qualifies as a "troll", though. Trolls seek to annoy or to control, and I don't think most of them actually believe what they are claiming (discovering what they actually do believe is the key to their destruction). Buttocks has more in common with the Kooks and Quacks that claim to have invented the telephone (or the internet <G>) and actually believes his delusions of adequacy. |

I don't know about T-bird. Branch killing is in Xnews. The M-ID is added automatically but it's NOT a one-click process. ![]() J -- Replies to: Nherr1professor2doktor31109(at)Oyahoo(dot)Tcom |
