Last summer i upgraded my whole computer to an AMD-64 3GHz, with a
Radeon X800. It started out OK, but now, after I've played graphics heavy games such as Half-Life 2, FEAR or Black and White 2, for about 10 minutes, the game just exits back to the desktop, no error message, no other issues, it just acts like I was never playing. Does anyone know why? (Don't tell me to upgrade to the latest drivers, I've done that!). I don't pretend to know much about computers, but I think it may be a fan/cooling issue. In other news, my "Windows XP home", hates my Athlon 64, its drivers, and the drivers for my motherboard, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I say this because my other partition has SUSE 10.0, which absolutely loves it. But I don't know Linux well enough yet to get Half Life 2 running in WINE! |

Check the cooling fan on the video card. It's likely either the fan, and
heat sink is clogged with dust, or the bearing went out on the fan and it's no longer working, so the card is overheating. Whenever the game suddenly exits like that, open up Catalyst Contro
Centre right away and check the temps under the "Overdrive tab. There should be a little dial that says "Curren Temperature". If it's running somewhat over 65 degrees celcius then you know it's a cooling issue |

get a program called EVEREST home edition and run in in back ground while
gameing. have it open to the Computer/sensor page. now when the game craps out your right at the temp page and can also check the voltage to see if your power supply is craping out, low 12v rail. Are you really running your CPU @ 3GHz? That would be majorly overclocked and could cause heat issues and big-time instability. There is no Athlon 64 that runs that as stock speed. Maybe you have an Athlon 64 3000+ processor (which runs at 2 GHz stock speed). > > Does anyone know why? (Don't tell me to upgrade to the latest drivers, > I've done that!). in reply to the last message - Yes it's an Athlon 64 3000+ running at
1.8GHz clock speed. I typed the message in a hurry! I will try the suggestions above and let you know the results! Cheers Roland |

ur fan might be clogged so its overheating card so card is overheating so
fan will slow down and it exits game to protect the card from damage. I would buy some compressed air go outside with card and blow it out. if u got a dust mask use it . u dont want that in your lungs.Or use shirt to protect yourself.
