I have a series of files generated by a program called Info WorkPlace with a
..XLK extension. I can open these files in Excel 2000, but if I try to load it in Excel 2003, I get an error "This file was created by a newer version of Excel. do you want to download a converter so you can work with this file?" I'm already running the latest version. How can I open these files in Excel 2003? If I open the file in WordPad, here are the first few lines of the file. As you can see, this is not the standard Excel binary format. I think I figured out the problem. This is actually a SILK file format. The
extension is supposed to be .SLK, not .XLK. Once I changed the file extension, Excel 2003 was able to open it just fine.
