I just downloaded and installed Defender today. When I check for updates, I
do get the ballon message stating that Defender is connecting to the Interent and checking for updates, and then it states there are no new updates. However, it is still on signature 1.0.0.0 and reports it is 60 days out of date. I thought our firewall was blocking, but I monitored the logs, and I see that my client is not even hitting the firewall outbound at all when I check for updates. Thanks, Barry |

Are you on a corporate network? Is your company running WSUS to distribute
patches? If so, the WSUS administrator needs to do a little work to enable Windows Defender definitions to be distributed. -- "Bartly" <Bartly@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:7CE0D553-792A-4FF1-9B41-B430BED6CDDD@microsoft.com... >I just downloaded and installed Defender today. Bill,
Yes and yes. And I am the Network Admin. I did not realize that Defender had changed that dramtically from the previous versions. Is the WSUS info available from the Defender home page? Or will WSUS be providing the updates? Thanks "Bill Sanderson MVP" wrote: > Are you on a corporate network? Yes--big change.
Here's the post that I have which gives information about how to configure WSUS: --- If your windows update is pointing to your local WSUS, then you must include the Windows Defender in synchronization setting. In Products selection, please include Windows Defender In Update classifications, please include Definition Updates You must synchronize the server and approve the definition for clients to get the latest definition. Regards, Cheong --- While you are looking at WSUS settings, I might note that security updates for IE7 Beta2 are also being made available via this route, and probably require similar configuration steps--so if you have (or want to have) users of that beta--you might check for those in addition to the Windows Defender definitions, while configuring. -- "Bartly" <Bartly@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news FB9CCC3-BA33-4C0E-9785-99DE93CF9939@microsoft.com...> Bill, > > Yes and yes.
