I have a Personal Desktop computer:
Hardware: -Intel 845 GL mother board -Intel 1.80 MHz Pentium 4 Processor -RAM DDR 640 Mb -Hard Disk 40 GB Software: Installed genuine retail purchased Windows Xp and Office 2003, Later both updated through windows and office update with SP1 & SP2. Now I want to buy two new hardware and want to replace with old ones. i.e. 1- Intel Pentium 4 Processor with 3.2 GHz (HT) 2- Intel 915 GL mother board. Now I want to know from u all learned people that can I use Old HD with New Hardware. If Yes, How? Please let me know about both the software. And how to activate them again with microsoft. I guess I will definately get the help, then only I will start to get the things done accordingly. Thanx |

After you install your new motherboard and processor, you will need to do a Repair Install. Everything should still work, but it would be wise to back up all your data anyway in case it turns out you need to do a Clean Install. If you do need to re-activate Windows, this is no big deal. http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/moving_xp.html - for changing motherboard http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm - Repair Install http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html - Clean Install One thing to keep in mind for the Repair Install - if your original XP CD did not have Service Pack 2 included and you have Service Pack 2 installed, you'll need to make a slipstreamed XP install CD with SP2 in it. This is very easy. I like AutoStreamer, but there are other methods. Here are links to explain that: How to slipstream sp2 into XP http://www.simplyguides.net/guides/...tostreamer.html - AutoStreamer http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?ac...&showarticle=49 http://www.windows-help.net/windows...sp2-bootcd.html http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/slipstream.htm Malke -- MS-MVP Windows User/Shell Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic" |
