I am trying to install XP Pro on a Diamond Max 10 200GB SATA hard drive. The
windows installation files load from the CD without any problem, I also installed the SATA drivers from a floppy I got with the Mainboard. The problem occurs at the first reboot during installation when the computer should boot from the hard drive for the first time and then complete the setup, instead I get an error message saying "error loading operating system". I have checked the drive with Maxtor Powermax and it says that the drive is error free and I have perfomed a complte format of the drive. I am at a complete loss, can anyone help? |

John: We'll assume the HD is non-defective based on the diagnostic utility results. What do you mean when you say "I have performed a (complete) format of the drive."? You should partition & format the drive during the installation of XP. And that's what you did, right? Sometimes, for various reasons, the XP install process goes awry. Have you tried to repeat the process at least two more times? If not, you should. And as I've indicated, use the XP install process to partition/format your drive; don't use any third-party process to do so. If & when you repeat the install, delete any & all partitions that are listed so that you can start fresh. And you're sure you've properly used the "F6 routine" during the install process to install your SATA driver/controller? Anna |
