Default OT: Damn that's a nice program...

I was having some problems with my computer earlier. I'm sure it's due to
too many running processes or something I've done/ installed etc. but, while
searching MS's site came across this:
http://www.windowsonecare.com/Default.aspx
Interested, and thinking; "maybe all those egg-heads were right and Norton's
suite IS a hog" decided to go through the lengthy process of dumping a bunch
of programs including all the Norton/Symantec stuff, restarting,
blah-blah-blah.
went through the process of downloading and installing the above referenced
software (much quicker and easier than the first (required) step).

My initial impressions are VERY positive.

the GUI that the task tray icon throws is real nice. there's some
additional "tune up" and restore, etc.
It's been really good about asking me each time there's internet connection
attempts, etc.
I haven't been using it for more than an hour but so far it's very good.

Very cool, Chris. I've been waiting for something like this from Microsoft
for a number of years. I will definitely try it out!

I read somewhere that once they get it up and running MS were planning to
charge for this service. You'd think with all the problems we've had with
viri over the years they'd just include it in Windows.

Hmm, so the same goes for Symantec? Macafee? All the other security software
vendors?

Microsoft didn't create these viruses, and Microsoft is not a public service
agency. Do you do *your* job for free if it gets harder to do?

Thanks Chris!

Trying it out right now..and it does seem to be very good!

I wouldn't go near Norton due to some previous bad experiences..Mcafee has
seemed to be good for me for quite awhile..but that too is getting somewhat
"kludgy"

Have had it running on one workstation for 3 months (replaced NIS) and it is far better than NIS

If they did that then McAfee et al would dry up and go away,
and then come back to court saying anti trust. Common
business sense says why pay someone if you include it when
people will buy if you don't

Ford or GM didn't invent thieves and bad driving either.

Imagine buying a new car, but it doesn't come with door locks, an ingition
lock, safety belts or air bags.

After purchasing the car you can drive to a business just down the street
who'll install those much needed safety and security devices for you - at a
cost.

You'd by a car like that?
