VirtualMode in ListViews disable Checkboxes?

I haven't found any documentation on this but a little test app seems to show
that if a listview control is in virtual mode you can't see the checkboxes?
i.e. with ListView.Checkboxes = True, I don't see the checkbox in virtual
mode but there seems to be a gap or space in the listview for them, they just
aren't visable.

Anybody else have this problem or can point me to documentation to back this
up.
