I have a valid XP pro COA on the bottom of my Dell laptop, but when I have to
validate to install the beta IE 7.0, I am rejected and told that I have a VLK that has been blocked. Does anyone know how I can find out what number was typed in at setup? I suspect it might be different from the number on my COA sticker. Thanks |

You'll need to contact Dell support and order
their Dell Reinstallation CD for Windows XP, then perform a "Clean Install". You cannot simply change the Product Key in your situation. Anthony;
Does the laptop have the original Windows XP installation? Or has another been installed instead? This is more common with 2nd hand computers. See if this applies: http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/invalpk.htm If so, contact the laptop manufacturer or former owner for the correct media. The manufacturer may not be able to help in which case you may be forced to buy Windows XP if that is what you need. -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] http://www3.telus.net/dandemar http://www.dts-l.org "Anthony" <Anthony@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F5DB1254-BBC4-4B7E-9675-D8FE23F4107B@microsoft.com... >I have a valid XP pro COA on the bottom of my Dell laptop, but when I have >to > validate to install the beta IE 7.0, I am rejected and told that I have a > VLK > that has been blocked. > > Does anyone know how I can find out what number was typed in at setup? You will need to perform a repair installation (at the very least) in order to fix your situation - using an OEM CD - likely the Dell OEM CD that came with the machine. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |
