Is there a Windows XP equivalent to Win98's Netwatcher?
How can I tell if another user on the network has files open on my computer? Thanks. |

I have the same basic question on this one. It appears
that NetWatcher (netwatch.exe) was available through Win2000, but it is nowhere to be found on WinXP. Help. Thanks! >-----Original Message----- >Is there a Windows XP equivalent to Win98's Netwatcher? >How can I tell if another user on the network has files >open on my computer? Thanks. >. > |

Right click My Computer. 2. Click Manage. 3. Double click Shared Folders. 4. Double click Shares, Sessions, or Open Files. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. Steve,
Many thanks!!! Works quite nicely. I didn't see a way to create a shortcut to the information like netwatch.exe (suggestions?), but the info I need is there. Make a shortcut to "C:\Windows\System32\Compmgmt.msc". -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. Is there any way to have the C:\Windows\System32\Compmgmt.msc shortcut also go directly to the specific point of interest? It would be great if I could have shortcuts to load at boot time that would automatically open one window at System Tools/Shared Folders/Open Files and another at System Tools/Shared Folders/Sessions to cut down any needed documentation I need to stick to the front of machine acting as a P2P file server.
It currently runs Win 98SE and opens Netwatcher whenever rebooted for any reason. I will be replacing the 98SE machine with an Xp machine. With 98SE documenting Netwatcher use by non-technies for taking care of locked files was trivial. Doing the same for Xp and compmgmt.msc is another matter. |
