I'm trying to install FTP services on a XP Pro system. Everything works OK
as long as the firewall on the server is disabled. If the firewall is enabled, then the client will either time-out a request, or respond with an insufficient rights message. My ISP will block port 21, so I'm using port 40. (again, with the firewall disable, all works fine). On the server, in the firewall, I've added port 40 as an exception. I'm stumped. I'm clearly missing something with the firewall, but I clueless. Any ideas? I'm using XP Pro, SP2 with latest updates, IIS 5.1. |

I don't know anything about setting up an FTP but I do know that I've had
numerous problems with my own network because of blocked IP addresses. Maybe you need to add the IP address of the computer you want to grant access to, to your safe IP list.
