Default SP2 Installation

Hello,

I need to have WindowsXP sp2 installed on my machine. A while ago I had
attempted it, and it was unable to start up and had to restore from my
installation CD. I am afraid to repeat that. I don't know what I did
wrong, and am looking for guidance in trying this again. Are there any
tools that will check my computer before I try to install SP2?

Today I attempted to install Automatic updates from the Microsoft website.
When the system tried to authenticate if my Windows software is authentic,
it ran into an error and asked me to try again later. I just tossed that in
to show that something is wrong in my system.

Thanks for any help and God Bless,

Mark A. Sam
