Desktop Icons have changed to files

Default Desktop Icons have changed to files


I need help. The desktop icons have changed to what appears to be read/me
files and I cannot access anything on the computer. I cannot even access
restore. I have tried using a cd but the exe. icon changes to a read/me file.
What can I do?
