Default unknown error!?!!?!!??!?!

When I connect my camcorder to my computer to capture video I try to get it
to capture parts of the video manually. I get an error message that says
only "an unknown error has occurred." I can't do anything else. I have a
cannon zr50mc digital video recorder if that helps. I have no idea where to
go from here since the only error that I get tells me it is an unknown error.
I've got the camera turned on, it's connected via a firewire, I'm really not
sure where to go from here. Please help!

did you record in standard play mode of an hour per tape, or extra long
playing mode? a note on my website says there are issues if using ELP...

That appears to be what the problem was. I switched to SP and I can get past
the spot that the error message came up, but the preview screen is black and
I still can't get any video. How can I get this video?

capture with the software that came with the camcorder and convert as
needed.... or dub it from that camcorder to another one playing at standard
speed.
