Default gettysburg game loding issues

i have gettysburg game made in 1997-8. i cannot get it loaded into my laptop
.. per those at ea games they feel it is 'cause i am running windows xp and
the game was designed for windows 95/98. have rceived some help in trying to
make things compatible bur am receiving the following error messages.
1.) blah, blh, UNMAPLS could not be found in library KERNEL 32.dll. and
2.) blah, blah, lee.exe. is not a valid win32 application.
does anyone know what this means and can anyone tell me if i can even load
this game onto my machine at some point or is it a lost cause.
thanks, edger

Found this on another forum
Try the following:

Uninstall the game and delete all its directories.

Reinstall the game by browsing to the setup icon on the CDROM.

Install Patch 3 from the following location:

www.firaxis.com/downloads...duct=3,4,5

Then install the Firaxis WinXP compatibility update.

The game has to run from a shortcut, BTW. The autorun feature for these disks doesn't
work in WinXP.

That ought to do it, but you may still have to run it in compatibility mode. To do
so, right click on the shortcut, select "Win98" and "256 colors" from the options,
and disable "Themes."
