You need to connect with firewire/iLink, not USB....

If this is the Everio G series then the movies are stored on the hard
disk as mpeg2 files. You transfer them to the PC using the JVC software
provided (who knows why the cameras aren't just mass storage compliant)
- at least that is what I found for a friend here in Oz.

If you want to use MM then you will need to convert using one of the
many conversion techniques found on Papajohns site or videohelp.
Otherwise use some other software (eg what came with your camera, avid
free etc.

I came across this thread after purchasing the Everio camcorder and looking
for a solution to use it with MM2. I have just purchased the WinAVI Video
Converter and it seems to be doing a great job for me. Now I can use my
Everio clips in MM2, after converting the files. I also use the Cyberlink
PowerDirector to make some of my movies, and Photo Story 3 for picture
stories. Cyberlink's PowerProducer can author DVDs using any of my finished
MM2 movies, PS3 slideshows, and of course PowerDirector movies, so I am able
to get some nice variety on my DVDs....anyway, to bottom line this, it looks
like the WinAVI converter is a great solution to this problem, and the
converted files load into MM2 a lot faster than the ones from my old
camcorder.

Although all video converter can help to make conversion, but we must
pick out the one which be suitable .I like best is WinAVI video
converter. It has the best quality and speed. You can click this to know
it:

I'm not sure if we've tried MOD files, but we have done some work to make
sure that if it plays with the player there is a much better chance it will
work with Windows Movie Maker (no promises though :-) )

Dean,
How difficult would it be for you to test the .MOD files and confirm they
will play OK on the next version of Movie Maker? I think you're very close..
cause I can play it with Media Player v10. (But I don't know if its because I
installed the Cyberlink software (JVC supplied software) that installed the
Audio and Video codec)

Its a shame that JVC supplied a 3 version old software from Cyberlink with
no possibilities to upgrade/patch without buying the full license...

For Microsoft this could be huge because all JVC cameras will start using
this new format.

Thanks
Gaspar
