Default About moviemaker file extensions...

I've got some movies with different file extensions and wondered if someone
could clarify...

Some of my files have filename.MSWMM, and others have filename.WMM. Are
they the same? Is WMM "newer", can I just type over the old MSWMM and
rename them to WMM?

Thanks,
George

..MSWMM would be your *Project* file...
not a completed movie.

Are you certain the other files are .wmm
or could they be .wmv which would be a
completed movie file.

MSWMM is the extension for projects saved in Movie Maker 2.1
I am not certain but I would assume that the WMM ones (be sure it is WMM and
not WMV or WMA) are from older versions of Movie Maker. I never used version
1 and barely got going with version 2 before SP2 and WMM 2.1 came out so I
don't know for sure but that's my guess.

Thanks John,

Yes, you are correct, my mistake, the other files *are* WMV, so to sum it
all up, I guess that would mean I have (and should have) two kinds of files
in my movies folder...

MSWMM. Movie "project" files...I assume playable gerally only inside
WinMovieMaker, and

WMV. Finished movies, playable with most any player like WinMediaPlayer,
DVD players if the file is burned to a DVD, etc., right?

Thanks,
George

Correct...but burning a .wmv file on a DVD
is another issue and it requires additional
