No sound captured from PD150 with firewire

I am capturing from a Sony PD150 (proffesional camera) using a firewire lead
from the camera to the PC, and USB lead from the PC to an external hard drive.

When I play the imported clip there is no sound in the preview pane or the
time line.

Any ideas?
