Keeps closing and locking up

Whenever I drag movies onto the timeline, crop them or do pretty much
anything the program either closes straight away or locks up. I have no idea
why it does this I have tried freeing up disk space and various other things.
I cannot open one project for an "unspecified error" and another locks up
when the progress bar reaches the end. Whenever I open the video transitions
box it also locks up, which also happens when some videos are imported. It is
annoying because it was fine when I started using Movie Maker but has got
steadily worse over time.
