Default abrupt audio stopping

ok, here is whats happening...

i have been editing video clips to fit with my selected soundtrack. when i
playback the project to check for proper syncing, the audio abruptly stops at
clip 'x' and remains off for the remainder of the video.

now, if i drop the timeline marker (?) to a second into clip 'x', the audio
plays appropiately as though there is no problem. after doing this, i tried
starting the playback from the beginning and it just stops again.

very frustrating... any help will be greatly appreciated
