IDE Channel question

The board i use has 2 Ide channels but one of the channels
is occupied by two built-in compact flash slots.

I have been trying to use use sean liming (et all) method
detailed in chapter 11 of his book. (i am not place blame
or praise but just give this as reference) i have the target
hard drive and the cdrom on the same ribbon cable with
the cdrom as the master device and the target hard-drive
as the slave. will this configuration allow me to make a bootable
cd rom using the instructions in limings book.
