Skype works fine on my computer when calling Skype tp Skype. But I,ve never
had any luck calling landline or mobile. The sound is muffled or breaks up, or I get a bad echo repeating my end of the conversation. It doesn't matter whether I use a headset and mike, or a voip usb phone? Any suggestions? Computer is laptop with xp and updated to latest version of skype. |

There are always some inherent problems with VoIP. Skype-Skype works
fine probably it has smart buffering. In many countries, there are very cheap phonecards which allow you to call anywhere from a normal fixed phone (of course you have to account for the local call charges). And you don't get any of those annoying problems that come with VoIP. In many cases, the rate is better than Skype-Landline, e.g. http://melbourneconnect.com.au/detail/gps.jsp |

I been using Yahoo Messenger with no problems.
There is also VoipBuster http://www.voipbuster.com/en/index.html It looks promising. Art2U |

I haven't tried it, so I can't vouch for it. http://sony.glowpoint.com/ H.N. |

It doesn't state which currency that is. But a plan with no monthly charges definitely has more appeal. Others such as skype only charge for time used. > > |

If you are in Australia or New Zealand check out iinet for excellent value. www.iinet.net.au -- David Remove "farook" to reply At the bottom of the application where it says "sign here". The point is, you don't get those jittering, echoing, muffling,
breaking-ups with phonecard calls. If the rates are similar, why bother with VoIP at all?? I programmed my Palm to do the automatic DTMF dialing, so there is no hussle in remembering the long PIN. |
