Default epson photo 870 roll paper problem...please help

Using roll paper on this printer, sometimes it advances to the cut off
point, then back as it should. Other times it continues to feed paper
through instead of backing up to "top of form".

Any help on how to fix this so it works all the time or any help on
how to send a code or otherwise get it to back the paper up instead of
keeping on feeding forward would be greatly appreciated.

There can be a number of causes. due to a bad connection between the
printer and computer. Sometimes it is due to a dirty sensor that isn't
recognizing the paper position correctly, and sometimes its due to
slippage of the paper during loading where the paper transport wheels,
because they are glazed with residue, cause the paper to move out of
proper timing.

Make sure the connections are solid and you have a proper type of
connection (if you use USB use a powered point, like a externally
powered USB hub, or direct from the printer, and don't overdo the length
of the cable). Clean the paper transport wheels so they grab the paper
well, and make sure the roll isn't impeded in any manner that might
cause the transport to fail to be able to move it evenly. Look for
sensors and blow them out if they have paper dust that might block the
optical window in them.
