I was installing an arctic cooler fan on my card to replace the stock
one that froze up, and when I put everything back together the card didn't work. I think I could have knocked one of those teeny little resistors off the back of the card, but I can't be sure there was one there in the first place. Even with a loupe, it's hard to tell. So I need some help figuring out whether there should be a little rectangular seminconductor at R137 on the back of the card, near the lower left corner of the GPU. I've looked at manufacturers' photos online, but they all get too grainy when I enlarge them. I don't think the card is under warranty, and the warranty probably doesn't include clumsy owners' mistakes anyway. I'd also like to know whether anyone services these cards, or if the manufacturers just replace them when they break. Regards, Jon |

On this pic I can see 137 mentioned: http://www.ixbt.com/video2/images/s...6-scan-back.jpg And there's something rectangular close to it, but not connected to it. The best way to find pics like this is to use Google, and to use the option to find pictures, and select large size images ;-) http://images.google.com/images?svn...ro+back&spell=1 -- Thomas |

Thanks Thomas. I checked out the picture you sent, and looked at a few
in a Google search of my own. It sure looks like there's supposed to be a little doodad there at R137. Now I need to figure out what that part was, and where to get another like it, and try to solder a replacement on. Any one have a schematic for the board? To make matters more interesting, there are at least two versions of the
Sapphire 9800Pro. The early one is in the two pictures Thomas linked. The revised one uses the 9800XT PCB, identifiable with a very compact blue VGA connector. Be sure you are looking at the correct image. If there's a chance the component was missing in the first place, you can try running the card as-is. Once I knocked out two capacitors near the AGP connector on my 9800Pro, and it runs just fine, even overclocking to the same level as before. -- "War is the continuation of politics by other means. First,
I have tried running the card as-is, and it doesn't. In fact, that's how I figured out there was a problem. I also tried using the other video out connector in the hopes that the problem would only affect one of the two connectors.
