Default AVG Free AnitVirus

Hi Folks,

I've heard that AVG is supposed to be pretty good so I installed it on a
PC here that I'm setting up for a family member.

The install went fine, updated the program using its update function and
scanned the system - all OK

This morning and as of now, AVG reports updates available but it will
NOT update - keeps timing out says to try later!

I went to their site and the server seems almost dead - takes forever to
simply render any page - can anyone advise on this?

Is a case of you get what you pay for? Or is it some kind of glitch? Can
any AVG users comment?

Thanks, Fred

Hi

Possibly a glitch with Grisoft's server. Try again a bit later.

I am having the same trouble, my guess would be that some of their
servers have gone down, or perhaps the load on the server is a bit
high. I am going to try again tomorrow, hopefully it will be fine then.
This is bad because my company uses AVG for about 90% of its computers
and not having the latest updates is can result in bad things

Why would I do that? AVG works great, aside from the current update
problem, which I have no doubt that will be fixed soon enough. AVG has
never failed to remove a virus, and I recommend it to all my clients.
Even the paid version is very inexpensive.

Overall, AVG is pretty good. Right now, it would seem that
its servers, both on the free and retail sides, are running
extremely slow. For North America, the best time to download
and do updates is in the late evenings.

Avast is far superior than AVG for the time being
its my opinion based of years of testing both on multiple computers

All AVG7 Free-related pages/servers do seem to be having problems right now.
Things you can try if the problem persists:

1. Open an IE window to www.grisoft.com & check for updates manually.

2. Manually update AVG7 Free:

Do any of these AV programs actually REMOVE viruses if you have them? I've
used norton forever, and while it seems to be good at scanning and deleting
viruses from emails or even finding a file that is infected on your
computer, it does not actually clense your comptuer of the virus. You still
have to go to the symantec and download their special tool that scans for
the virus/worm and then manually follow steps to remove it.

Home/Home Office editions of NAV cannot remove instances what Symantec calls
"extended security threats" (read: hijackware), Robert.
