Filters not working properly?

I have recently bought a new PC. I use the filter to filter out dates along
with other information. I also use custom filters to filter out dates from
this date to that date. On any other PC I use, the drop down menu shows the
dates as earliest date to latest date but on my new PC it shows smallest to
largest in the second series of numbers. EG. 09/01/05 The second series of
numbers being 01 rather than filtering by 09. Sorting the dates is not an
option for me. the way the dates are scattered about in an almost random
pattern but there are less than 1000 different entries. At most there are 42
different dates to be filtered?
