Default Some web sites to avoid

Here's a site that has a large number of EXE files on the main
page offered for download .... all of which contain two Adwares
and a downloader Trojan that downloads more Adware. Not a security
risk, apparently, but Trojans nevertheless:

The following twenty sites also contain Adware, and in same cases
there are Trojans included of various kinds ... in some cases nasty:

From their site

In our ongoing efforts to provide users with the highest-quality download service, we have prohibited software with components that might interfere with a user's control and privacy, such as Spyware and Adware.

Seems they must try harder...

Seems the ones that make such claims are often the worst. emule 1.08
has both Adware and a Trojan.

Is there some site that is intended to be a clearing-house for this kind of
information? You'd think there would be.

The site I mentioned in my post is one attempt. The difficulty is that
these "fly by night" web sites come and go. Stomp out 100 and 1,000
more pop up. Or maybe one will clean up its act for awhile and then
go rogue again. The best bet for the user is to scan setup and
installation files using Kaspersky with its extra defs. A free way to
do that is to use KASFX (see my sig). And only use highly recommended
and trustworthy software. It's getting worse out there by the day
