hi,
I am trying to attach my cell phone to my pc (using win xp home). When I try to load the driver for the usb cable using the software supplied by the cell phone provider I get the message "Unknown Device" rather than "New Hardware Found". Because of the "Unknown Device" message I am unable to load the USB cable driver. Is the USB cable faulty? How can this problem be rectifed? Thanks for your help, Sanjay Mehta. |

You install the drivers *BEFORE* attaching the phone. Install software > Attach cable to Computer > Attach phone to cable (make sure the phone is turned on). Bobby |

You install the software first. Since you have already
connect the cellphone, you need to open the device manager and "remove" the unknown device(s) from the USB list. Then put the CD with the cellphone drivers in the drive and run the setup or install procedure. You can use the Control Panel/install software. Then connect the cellphone and it should find the cellphone and then the installed software. If you still have trouble, contact the cellphone company since it their software that isn't working properly. Also, be sure that you are logged on as an administrator. -- The people think the Constitution protects their rights; But government sees it as an obstacle to be overcome. some support http://www.usdoj.gov/olc/secondamendment2.htm "sanjay" <sanjay@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:293050E2-CFD0-490F-97BB-D904D6F25378@microsoft.com... | | | Hi, | | Thanks for the reply, | | The Cell phone driver software during the installation asks for the cell | phone to be connected for pnp installation i.e. "When the found New Hardware | Wizard screen appears, click next to start the PnP installation." My guess is YES, the driver software is faulty. Be sure
that you are logged on as an administrator to install software and hardware. You might also contact Sharp to see if they have any updated drivers on their website for the GX phones. It is even possible that there is a problem with the phone or the cable. Google for "sharp gx cellphone usb driver" to find more info on your problem. -- The people think the Constitution protects their rights; But government sees it as an obstacle to be overcome. some support http://www.usdoj.gov/olc/secondamendment2.htm "sanjay" <sanjay@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:BBCDAE23-EB41-4A94-9A67-5B6BE41245A2@microsoft.com... | hi, | | Without attaching the cable or phone, I run first run the driver software | and DURING the installation of the driver I am asked to attach the phone for | PnP installation (i.e. New Hardware ... etc..) then finish to install the | driver completely. | | Is the driver software may be faulty? | | thanks, | | sanjay mehta | | "Jim Macklin" wrote: | | > It isn't recognized because you have to install the software | > FIRST. | > | > | > | > | > -- | > The people think the Constitution protects their rights; | > But government sees it as an obstacle to be overcome. | > some support | > http://www.usdoj.gov/olc/secondamendment2.htm | > | > | > | > "sanjay" <sanjay@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message | > news:49EF4EF4-42B6-43B6-B31C-D40679BC942B@microsoft.com... | > | hi, | > | | > | I tried as you indicated.
