Default CD BURNER & MPEGS won't work

PLease anyone who can help. My CDR can play CD's (music &
data), but when i try to burn music or pictures it starts
the process of burning, but wizard cannot finish it!
(Using several different programs such as roxio or media
player)THen the whole program will close then ask if i
want to send an error report for the program & windows
explorer. Also I noticed that i cannot play any MPEGS
(ie. from my digital camera or elsewhere) anymore. the
end result is the same. I was thinking of doing a system
restore but do not have several files backed up, & can't
back them up, until i can burn...i think it may stem from
running for about a week without virus protection, &
possibly getting a virus or something??? PLease help, i
have checked all windows updates...& can't find
anything... I am running windows XP

Too confusing.

If you think you have a virus do a full virus scan on your PC.

If you can burn using Windows CD writing application, then make your backups.

A System Restore will not delete any user data. You can use this to reset
to prior to Roxio if it was added recently.

If not uninstall Roxio, then do a Repair Install.

Go to the manufacturers web site for any driver updates for your CD.

Try burning usig Windows CD writing application.

Default RE: CD BURNER & MPEGS won't work

these programs have been installed for a while (roxio &
media player) but they just recently won't burn anything!
I have done full virus scan & it couldn't find anything.
Also have tried to send programs directly to CDR drive to
burn, will start the process but can't finish it! Any
other suggestions???

Thankyou...
