Default USB speed problem

Just had a new computer built (not by me) with an Asus A8N-E motherboard which has up to 10 USB2 ports. However my machine reports through Device Manager that the USB mass storage device will function at reduced speed and I need to add a high speed USB host controller.

Si Soft Sandra reports the speeds as varying from 1.5 to 12 Mbps.

What is going on please and how do I sort it out?

Thanks

how many things do you have plugged in ? where are they plugged in? if you plug directly into the back of the motherboard does the speed change ?

Scanner, printer, ADSL modem, screen (to use the ports on it) Wacom tablet (off the screen). All plugged in at the back of computer - presumably at least some directly into motherboard but not sure. There are front ports as well but these are not in use.

you want to have the scanner, printer and modem plugged directly into the motherboard ports near the mouse and keyboard ports, this should sort it unless you already have i like that

Default Drivers updated - problem solved ot not?

Have installed/updated drivers now. Windows now states that the USB controllers are working correctly (which it didn't before) but can you interpret the following report from
SiSoft Sandra which now reports the following for two different hub controllers:

It appears that the first controller is reporting as USB2 but I don't understand the next controller.

Controller : Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller Sandra reports:

Root Hub
Compound Device : No
Hub Is Bus Powered : No
Power Switching : Gang-switched
Over-current Protection : Global
Number of Ports : 10

Root Hub: USB Port 1
Status : No Device Connected

Root Hub: USB Port 2
Status : No Device Connected

Root Hub: USB Port 3
Status : No Device Connected

Root Hub: USB Port 4
Status : No Device Connected

Root Hub: USB Port 5
Status : Device Connected
Device Connected to Port : USB Mass Storage Device
OEM Device Name : VIA Technologies, Inc. ??? (6205)
Device Version : 0.03
Device ID : VEN_040D, DEV_6205, PRT_00
USB Version : 2.00
Speed : High (480Mbps)
Configuration Settings : 1
Open Pipes : 2
Transfer Type : Bulk
Data Packet Size : 64 byte(s)

Root Hub: USB Port 6
Status : No Device Connected

Root Hub: USB Port 7
Status : No Device Connected

Root Hub: USB Port 8
Status : No Device Connected

Root Hub: USB Port 9
Status : No Device Connected

Root Hub: USB Port 10
Status : No Device Connected

If I connect a USB2 card resder to the front port(s) this is also reported as a USB2 simliar to port 5 above

I don't understand why the other kit (printer, scanner etc) does not show on this controller. However, looking at Sandra for the next controller shows the other kit but as USB 1 or 1.1. Is this just saying the devices are only USB1 devices? I am a bit surprised if they are - but not sure how I can tell!

The other controlle reports as follows:

Controller : Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller

Hub Is Bus Powered : No
