Critical Updates

My wife hasn't been keeping her pc up-to-date and now I'm
trying to install lots of Critical Updates. I've been
scanning for updates and installing a few at a time.
After many hrs of this I realized that the scan was still
showing the ones I had already successfully installed. I
think I've been installing and re-installing the same
ones over and over. Shouldn't the scan only display the
ones that I haven't installed??? How do I keep from
installing them over and over???
