Default NT Authority system shutdown

I'm looking at a PC for a friend, it has XP home on a HP
computer. After trying many things, I did a recovery and
it still shuts down after connecting to the internet. An
error message pops up and says, 'Your computer will
shutdown due to NT Authority\System blah blah,
Any idea how I can fix this for them?
