Slightly OT: - R800 and iP8500/i9950 vs Easy CD Creator

I hate the supplied CD printing applets supplied with the above printers
(especially the Epson one - it looks like it was designed by kids for kids)
and want to use Easy CD's Label Creator, but I've wasted at least 20 CDs now
attempting to get the image in the right place.

Could someone please tell me the correct offsets to enter in the adjustment
dialogue (in cms please)? Let's start with the R800 as that will open it to
the widest audience (as I know Canon doesn't offer CD printing in the US).

From what I've heard, the offsets vary from printer to printer and software
package to package.
Epson supplied a CD sized cardboard blank with many of the printers to use
for this sort of thing.
I'd be tempted to make one, with a surface that allows the ink to be cleaned
off so that it can be reused.

Will soap and water remove most of the R800 ink from a cd before the ink
sets?

Nope. You're forgetting it's pigmented which means it's a bugger to clean
off anything with soap and water and anything stronger would, I suspect,
remove the printable layer.

Could you use a scrap cd and print on the back side. The ink would bead up,
but you should be able to determine the offsets. Or, you could put a few
gummed labels around the edge so the ink wouldn't bead up.

I know you are highly proficient in PagePlus and MS Pub. Have you tried
using either of those for cd printing?

It's my fault, I've not explained myself sufficiently (or properly). What I
mean is the position of the CD on the platter (CD-holder) which, obviously,
won't change from unit to unit as the platters will be uniform.

And I don't know about "highly proficient", Ron, (you flatter me! ;o)); I've
been using Publisher since about 1994 and I only picked up PagePlus a couple
of months ago. I wouldn't consider myself "proficient" with either...

I coulnd't agree with you more. I usually end up using a template in
photoshop and exporting an image for printing on the cd-label print or
epson print CD. Print CD is minimal... cd labelprint is horridly
unstable software.

This may not be the answer you are looking for, but i'll tell you
anyway.

Doesn't support the canon's directly, but.. http://pete.mvd2.com/ has
"canon_ip4000_v3.std" that I have tested on both the ip4000 and the
mp760, though I can't remember where the tray is on the other canons.
It supports the r800 directly IIRC.

You know I don't have a problem with using Epson Print CD its the same
for the R800/1800 and the R210/310 series. Its just a little more
awkward loading the CD into the R1800 than the R210.

I have used the Stomper and Surething and have not found there is much
difference in any of the programs - haven't tried Easy CD's label
Creator but will.

Do not use it, use Surething instead as that's made for the Job ..
