CANNOT REINSTALL SOFTWARE HP PSC 1315

I am using Windows me. I went to settings and pushed on Add and remove
programs.

I tried reinstalling from disk and got message there is newer software
and wouldn't install. I went to HP web site and d\l program there.
There is still a problem. MS office won't print and gives me message
"printer is unavailable. I tried also system restore to no avail.

I do not wish to reinstall windows Me. What can I do?

Kindly advise by postinfg only.
