I'm talking from my experience with a the laserjet 1012. First they
brought the cartridge size down from 2500-3000 pages to 2000... this is if it really prints 2000 pages. Then, they provide drivers that /almost/ work: with server OSes -- Linux, OS X and even Windows server, it seems -- you need to shut off / turn on the printer about every 12th page. This is a well known problem, it's documented all over the net. Only HP doesn't know about it. That's when Mr Headrick wants to cycle *you* through a series of tests. See: http://minilien.com/?0aEJaBGCdU Or, long url: <http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=fr&lr=&c2coff=1&threadm=11bs01sginpbbcb%40corp.supernews.com&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dgroup:*printers*%2Bauthor:gilpel%2540inverse.nretla.org%26hl%3Dfr%26lr%3D%26c2coff%3D1%26scoring%3Dd%26selm%3D11bs01sginpbbcb%2540corp.supernews.com%26rnum%3D1> God knows how HP has found suitable to cripple the HP printer you've got your eyes on. With HP, beauty is only skin deep. GP |

Except you found the solution and posted in that thread the solution, an updated driver. If you chose not to use it there is not much I can do. What are you looking for? The link you gave, http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_p...P-LaserJet_1012 gives a solution for the LaserJet 1012 under Linux. I cannot help you further. - Bob Headrick, not speaking for my employer HP |

Have you tried the driver? Why should a third party provide drivers that work for your printers? If it does: it seems the reproduction of grays is not quite as good as with HP's. I believe Linux developers are trying to get a message through to HP... but you people are darned slow to learn. No time now, but I'll be back on this issue. We'll talk HP and drivers once again pretty soon. You know it's been a subject of discussion for a looong time. Meanwhile, if I was your employer, I'd fix the driver. I'm afraid once again you'll look ridiculous. GP |
