my files are gone

Help! I am fairly new at using a computer and I came home
the other day and Microsoft Word was missing on the
computer. We tried all kinds of things, finally my
husband came over and I don't quite know what he did, but
he got Microsoft Word back, but a lot of my homework is
gone. All the files I needed to turn in are gone!!! How
did it happen, and can I do anything to get them back??
Please Help me as I have only 1 day left to turn in this

Log into an account with Administrator access and search for them by
name.
Once you find one, you should find the rest.
