I currently have a wired home network. Cable comes in to modem then to
a 4 port wired router which, via Cat 5 cables, feeds two desktops and a laptop in the daughter's room. She is going to buy a new laptop and wants to have a wireless connection to the network. Can that be added to a wired network with some sort of hub or access point or would it require reworking the whole network with wireless components? TIA DFB For email remove "_no_spam_" |

An access point will do what you want, see this example;

The routers typically aren't any more expensive so basically you just get the additional features for free. |

Would I just plug the wireless router into one of the ports on the Linksys wired router and then configure her laptop to communicate with the wireless router? TIA DFB For email remove "_no_spam_" |

I cannot be 100% certain that all current routers do this, but I believe most do, and i have a D-Link I'm using like this at the moment. |

Many thanks to you and all who gave advice. The wireless router with DHCP disabled seems like a good idea as she can take it with her. Again thanks DFB For email remove "_no_spam_" |
