I changed operating systems on a HP Pavilion from ME to 98. The lady has
misplaced her ME disc so I had to use 98. I can't tell how fast the computer is because when I go to properties from the My Computer, it just says "x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3" It also says GenuineIntel and 95 megs of ram. I am sure lots of people on this newsgroup knows more than me, so here is my situation, hopefully someone can help. I got 98 installed but I can't get the sound card to work. In the Device Manager, under the Sound, video, and game controllers, it says the sound card is "AC'97 Driver for Intel(r) 82801AA Controller" , it says the Gameport Joystick, and it also says "MPU-401 Compatable" In the properties of all these devices it says they are working properly, but when I click on a wav file I get a pop up error box from Windows Media Player that says..."Cannot play back the audio stream, no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding." Any help with this would be appreciated very much... Thanks , Tom |

There you should see a playback and record device. If you dont' see them, or if they're greyed out, mention that. You didn't give us a basic description of what you've done though, for example, did you download a driver from HP or find one on the 'net or ??? Did you install the motherboard chipset driver? Try this: http://members.driverguide.com/driv...?driverid=21494 When you try to dowload it you'll be prompted for: login: drivers password: all |

I looked in the multimedia properties and the playback and record are greyed
out. The other day I did download drivers from the same site you mentioned, however I downloaded from this url http://members.driverguide.com/driv...?driverid=82573, which was a zip file and not a .exe file. So far nothing has worked I installed the driver .exe you sent and it looks like it is working but then it says The audio hardware is not responding. I am thinking that the sound card is built on the mother board and if I can figure out what chipset this computer has, maybe the sound card drivers will be included. I went to Add Remove Hardware and I see PCMCIA socket, is that the drivers I should be looking for the motherboard chipset? I can't get any more than 16 colors, so something is not correct. I appreciate all your help....
